A principle of the kingdom that Jesus often spoke about is written in Matthew 12:34, where Jesus says, “out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” Luke’s gospel reveals the destructive nature of a cynical or unguarded heart and the subsequent effect of our tongue. He illustrates how an unbelieving heart can block the purposes of God, while a believing, trusting heart releases God’s will and power altering our lives and situations.
Luke in his gospel reveals John the Baptist’s father, Zechariah, hearing, but doubting a seemingly impossible word from God for him and his barren wife, telling him they would have a son. Because of Zechariah’s doubt the angel of God sealed his mouth to protect their miracle from Zechariah’s unbelieving speech. “And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my word, which will come true at their proper time.” (Luke 1:20). Compare Zechariah’s response with Mary’s response, in Luke 1:26-38, “I am the Lord’s servant, may it be to me as you have said.”
The fact is, “Nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37) But even that which God wants to do, can be destroyed by our negative talk.
PRAYER OF FAITH: Father forgive me for the words I have spoken, that have destroyed your powerful purposes in my life. Forgive me for blaming you, others and the circumstances I face, for things I don’t like in my life. Today I repent and say, I trust you and believe your word of life for me. Nothing is impossible with you Lord God, Nothing is impossible with you. Amen.
